THE ARTS & YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP FORUM: “PEOPLE AND ARTS (PAA)” NYERI - KENYA

UMOJAH ONE is a ‘unity-based’ movement supporting entrepreneurship, positive artistic expressions, solution forums

and self-sustainability among the youth and society at large through education entertainment (edutainment) and the event will

therefore be dubbed “PEOPLE AND ART (PAA)” 1 - an acknowledgement of the relationship of a people and the great potential

in its arts 2 – Is a Swahili ‘(Paa)take off /soaring heights’ gesture of determination and willingness for positive changes;

especially vertical socioeconomic changes among the youth and society at large.

INTRODUCTION

The name UMOJAH ONE means “one unity” and is therefore well tailored to suit our objectives to harness the youth’s artistic potential and involve them in positive participatory issues in these monthly forums concerning curbing common problems like unemployment, poverty, exploitation, social conflict, drug abuse and other issues that affect the youth.

UMOJAH ONE was developed in 2006, 7 Years after the set up of K FAM Studios and Multimedia Solutions (our core registered business).

The Kenyan Art Industry is in its infancy stage and at the verge of a major growth spurt given a steady rising population of the youth (18-35yrs). There is a lot of economic potential in the Arts Industry that needs to be tapped into. However, there are many short comings that lead to poor quality of artistic goods and services surrounding this industry. This is especially so for the youth’s large pool of economically viable untapped talent available and lack of appropriate marketing channels.

UMOJAH ONE plans to come in and narrow this inefficiency gap by providing a market and coming up with excellent ideas that benefit the artistic young entrepreneurs in this potential Industry. This will involve providing a platform for their artistic skills and expressions, ranging from spoken word, poems, and dance to painting murals, graffiti and acrobats.

In turn, both their presentation, marketing and networking skills will sharpen as to match global standards of operation that even with the smallest of businesses are becoming critical factors for today’s success in business.

Apart from creating awareness on sensitive issues concerning the youth through the use of these platforms, it is also a means of income generation for young entrepreneurs with diligence and a deep passion for the Arts.

UMOJAH ONE is a movement supporting entrepreneurship and self-sustainability positively through The Arts.

OBJECTIVES OF UMOJAH ONE

· Appreciate and promote The Arts

· To create a platform for the SOCIETY to express themselves and their ideologies, visions and beliefs through The Arts,

· To enhance the artistic potential of the youth as agents of a viable means of livelihood

· An initiative to encourage and create job opportunities for the people.

· To build a strong Kenyan Brand; UMOJAH ONE and to ensure the people can relate to it.

· To diligently achieve the Five Objectives
